this makes me wonder can they record distance conversations this far in the future or has encryption gotten far enough ahead to prevent something like that?
Oh snap! This is why you don’t say no to the vampire.
Hope her temper tantrum didn’t just void her little contract with Veled to get out of the show alive… She was considered “safe” and “contained” on the Last Resort station after all…
Encryption has nothing to do with it. No matter how encrypted a message is, it has to be decrypted on the other side to be “read” (or watched, or listened to, whatever). Whatever device is being used for playback, that device has a piece of data that it can convert into an image/sound/smell/whatever, and if the user designs/modifies/sets that device so that it records, it can play that back experience again and again.
Considering that Veled ‘barely made the top five’ of Mr. Arkanis’ threat list, I’m curious as to whether he has any hidden recording devices elsewhere in his office that will let him replay the conversation and see if Veled has scrambled his memories of whatever happened.
Nice to see V is following through on her side of the deal – of course, she didn’t have much choice. Either hide ‘Saw’s issue, blame it on Gabe, which probably wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny, given everything that came before, or nix the deal, at which point ‘Saw would have no reason to go back to Last Res0rt and play nice – ‘Saw’s objective is Daisy’s protection, and losing the deal jeopardizes that, to the extent that a carefully managed runner might be the best solution.
I wouldn’t be so sure if Veled is actually helping or going with a scorched earth policy until we see what she does after the call ends.
Remember that they have a ship full of kids and a purebred Celeste that could shake the very foundations of Star Org and the Endless and could even have further effects on more then even that.
Of most things, it seems like Veled tries to keep things in balance. Jigsaw has a ship full of chaos, would Veled allow them to take Star org down a peg if it could be to disruptive to Veled’s long term plans?
First of all, the way ‘Saw get’s so protective of the kids, as scary as it is, is also quite cute. Even so, she might wanna put a little more work into controlling her transformation when angered, since as already pointed out this could be a recorded conversation, and then there’s the potential for an outburst like that in a more public situation.
As for Mr. Archanis, while Veled appears to be ready to hold up her end of the bargain and he won’t be involved long, one wonders, what exactly is he thinking? Does he realize she’s a vampire, or does he think Gab’s been up to other experiments? Either way, at least we got to see some genuine concern out of him before Veled decides to do who-knows-what in the name of the pact.
@nikolai60 The way he’s babbling in the next to last panel, he pretty obviously thinks it was something that Gabe did to her, and possibly something done to Daisy and/or the kids.
To be honest, I don’t think he’s necessily thinking of her as ‘vampire’ here, just the more obvious ‘monstering out’.
Though I do wonder if Veled, being a mother herself, might be sympathetic to just *why* she’s monstering out given she’s rather obviously doing it out of a need to protect *others*.
@Shad: Well, as was pointed out (last page? two pages ago? Sul, help me out here) holography and nanotech means that looks can be deceiving, so dead eyes may just mean that Gabe just found a way to force Glitter to fake the effect, for example…Good way to keep your detractors down, if bad mouthing Gabe caused everyone to think that you were Dead Inside…
@Brunhidden: Why not just ‘squish’ in the first place, then? ๐
@The_Rippy_One: Maybe from Maggie’s Scout Ariel impersonation after talking about Daisy’s kids last page? ( Slander-activated glitter punishment sounds like a wicked idea. xD )
On an unrelated note, I can’t believe it’s been this many weeks and I only just got the “insider trading” pun associated with what Gabe has been doing.
Hmm. Mixed view on the font–it does look ‘tech’, but to *my* eyes it seems like it’s a little harder on the eyes reading it. Major dose of YMMV there, of course, and not enough to complain about if you decide to keep it.
I like the new text choice, though I admit I keep expecting one of those electronic tickers to appear in the corner or something like out of the movies:
It looks like it’s time for some one to forget whats just happened.

Oh boy…

Though I must add…even if this stunt did hurt Jiggy’s chances with Veled, it is very satisfying to see Daisy’s jerk of a father so freaked out.
Unexpected for one perhaps. But if he remembers anything about this, it will be what Veled wants to let him remember.
Veled, once again in the right place at the right time…
Also, I wonder what language Daisyโs jerk of a father is talking to ‘Saw in? Hebrew or the Last Res0rt universes equivalent of Hebrew?

@kermit that’s part o what i was thinking but more of an out side source spying on him

will next week be ‘squish’ followed by ‘you saw too much’ or ‘you saw too much’ followed by ‘squish’?
Art question, by the way — does anyone know why all of Jigsaw’s hair changes color in zombie mode except for her head hair?

he probably think it’s a delayed reaction to the whimsy breaking down and that she’s some how becoming a zombie before his eyes.
Regardless of what he thinks is happening to her, the Dead Eyes guarantee he knows it’s somehow related to being Dead Inside.
And Vulpis may have a point. He probably isn’t thinking “SHE’S A VAMPIRE” because she’s the very first non-human vampire.

Don’t kill him.Don’t kill him.Don’t kill him.Don’t kill him.
PLEEEEASE don’t kill him.
I don’t think this is the first time this has happened for either of them. :3
But wait, can he really be ignorant of the source of all those zombies? How else would Gabriel get them??
@LavaBat: Seems like a safe bet. ๐

…Did the font on the site here change, or did I hit something in Firefox I shouldn’t?
On an unrelated note, I can’t believe it’s been this many weeks and I only just got the “insider trading” pun associated with what Gabe has been doing.
How do you think I feel? I made the comic and I didn’t even see that pun coming!
@Vulpis: Yeah, was trying something new. Let me know if you like it. ๐
I like the new font. very clean, and just a little uncommon – works for a sci-fi comic.
Hmm. Mixed view on the font–it does look ‘tech’, but to *my* eyes it seems like it’s a little harder on the eyes reading it. Major dose of YMMV there, of course, and not enough to complain about if you decide to keep it.

1000hrs
Last Res0rt Station
1000 beats and counting Nikola ?
Personally, I would love to see a site ticker that streams rsync outputs from Ru P4U1โฒs Frag Race.
My first thought was military time, yeah beats would probably be the right one to use.
