I admit that last bit about him and Veled being engaged hit me out of left field but the the illusion bit makes sense. especially considering last comic. i think she put the shadow in there to let use know for sure so we wouldn’t debate it endlessly (heh endless )or maybe it was a reference to the shadow who has the power to cloud men’s minds and can hide everything but his shadow.. i’m not sure myself
Nice work with “showing, not telling” in panel 2, Jig’! Not so cool about springing the nature of Veled’s past relation to him, though – again, it feels a bit too random (that she suddenly knows this, not that such a relationship occurred), in much the same way she revealed that Razil couldn’t use his powers. It feels…a little Deus ex…
Jig’: What? Okay let me parse – you meant quadruple, right? 4 sets of wings? Only one, of course. Next, when did we learn that he was, at one point, married to anyone (let alone an 8 winged celeste)? The only thing I can find is that, at some point Veled “disappeared” on him (as Alice did, currently), which implies any number of possible relationships (we bandied about “mentor,” “co-conspirator,” and “betrayer” in the comments; also, post-script, if that is what you are referencing, does that mean he married Alice, too?), and I honestly can’t find any hint of marriage in relation to him what so ever in the comic. I’ve been wrong before, and I may be wrong now, but I’m honestly not seeing any hints here beyond that, let alone how ‘Saw got that info. Now, you might intend to show us all this information gathering later, in a Sherlocke-esque “And this is how it all happened,” and that’s fine, and I’ll happily wait for that, but right now it feels like a bit of a shocking swerve, instead of a plot twist.
@The_Rippy_One: You’re not wrong; that slip of the tongue is the only hint at a relationship whatsoever, and it doesn’t scream “engagement.” It is a bit Deus Ex-y to find out like this, but I feel it’s much less egregious than with Razil because we’re likely going to get a full explanation, rather than just a passing mention.
The news probably would have been shocking for us regardless of how we found out, such that a scene showing Daisy and Jigsaw gossiping about Gabriel’s distant past might have been omitted to preserve the comic’s pacing. Despite the jarring suddenness of this reveal, I guess I’m just more interested in all of the secrets we’re (hopefully) about to learn, rather than how Jigsaw learned that one detail. 😛
@Jigsaw Forte: It makes sense that high-powered, multi-winged Celeste would seek each other out. In all fairness, though, we haven’t had much to tell us how rare a four-winged Celeste is compared to the eight-winged Messiah. xP
Sulacamas/The Rippy One: There’s a possibility that some of this information was imparted offscreen, but there’s also the possibility that Jigsaw isn’t sure of this information and she’s baiting Gabriel to get a reaction.
Veled’s love life, at least the public side of it, is likely an open book to the media and plastered all over the news. So the engagement probably isn’t as secret as we might think at first glance.
@hariman good point Hariman there is the star factor but i think Veled my have some sort of intimidation factor in trying to keep secrets as far as that is concerned. “i’ve recruited and unnatural vampire to do my bidding and return for her ‘life’ and the life of on close to her” secret “i’ve dating some smuck behind closed doors” wait how did this make headlines in 20 newspapers?
@Veled’s capacity to cover things up: I would note that she engineered a successful smear campaign against Daisy, everything that she ever had anything to do with, across all forms of mass media. Daisy’s rep is so tarred over that the color black thinks she’s a little too dark…
That sort of power argues that she could squelch quite a lot of rumors if she felt like it (though, there is a question of whether or not she’d care). Assuming any media outlet wants to take the risk of pissing her off to begin with…
Meanwhile, if Veled still carries a torch, that adds an…interesting…angle to Star Orgs continued hunt for Gabe…
Keep in mind that Veled can rip out a paparazzi’s soul and feed it to the dog. That would keep the shutterbugs at range, or at the very least make them demand *serious* hazard pay…
@vulpis that would be part of the aforementioned intimation factor.
@jigsaw can you please delete the previous post i have no ideal what happened as i was typing the post and suddenly it posted before i could really get started.
waitheWHAT!?!?!
well he did call her Veled at first didn’t he?
Also if you look at that shadow you can tell that’s not Daisy or Alice it’s jigsaw.
@e_voyager – Oh SNAP O_o I didn’t notice that!! Good eye!
e_Voyager: Mind=Blown
How? Is that even a Vampire Power in the RPG? How is she doing this?!?
@e_voyager: Wow, Jigsaw certainly has gotten better with the illusions.
Though it seems like she’s well informed to. Though a marriage with Veled would probably be big news.
Wow…I did not see that coming. And I do enjoy the last panel. 😀
The shadow knows…

Waitbutifthat’sI..but…can’t…
[PLEASE STAND BY WHILE COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS REBOOT]
@Josh.C: When was the last time we saw Alice? Maybe Saw ate her and absorbed her shapeshifting abilities.
I doubt, an ass could ever look like that in a
dressing-gown or however you murrican folk name it.
@feral five strips ago about to engage in some surprise cardiovascular exorcise
@Zarpaulus: Somehow, I doubt Jigsaw’s abilities work like Kain’s or Raziel’s ability to take others powers.
i suspect her bluff’s about to be called hard, his face is more “how did she know” then “oh shit shouldn’t have said that”

@Rippy: How many double-winged Celeste did you think there were, exactly? :-p
Awww man, life- and galaxy-changing tragedy inbound. Bring on the mind reading! 😮

EDIT: please change “married” to “affianced.” Sorry for the imprecision.

@hariman: With the way the media covered Daisy’s interrogation, that doesn’t sound like too much of a stretch. 🙂
I’ll be really curious to see how she gets from talking about this engagement to rescuing Jason, though.
