@the_rippy_one as a Celeste he was born with powers the fact that he was never shown trying to use them and perhaps a little mind reading told jigsaw that his powers were sealed off from his use. Jigsaw get her powers when she was sired unknowing and is still learning how to use them. Rei may be teaching her as well. the again you probably knew this already. on thing all celeste can do is tone. they may not all be good at it but they can all do it according to the guide game book. now it’s off the bed for me
Hope things are just a minor inconvenience and not a total chaos Jigs.
Well I did consider him a kid and some kids are really gullible. I don’t think he has anything to fear from Rei. She may look big and intimidating. But I think she’s a big softy when it comes to kids.
Remember Veled was able to read Cypress’s mind with a shake of the hand. Chances are that Jigsaw sent him to give Rei a complete annoyingly report of what they’ve learned thus far. Being a child and on this ship might mean he knows very little on how his races powers really work.
So, which powers are we talkin’ about here? Celeste magic or Talmi-specific Toning? Can Rei do some kind of direct-download-mind-meld…thing? Will we hear Razil utter the phrase “I know kung fu”??
@e_voyager: Who do you think would be responsible for (somehow) sealing off his powers? And don’t Celeste still need to learn how to Tone?
@Josh.C: Your probably right about Razil’s errand. Any thoughts on how Rei might then be involved with this jailbreak?
Heh, as far as I know it is called booping, when one pokes another person’s nose. I wonder if maybe in some places it’s called beeping and in some places it’s called booping?
@E: -_- Yes, as a half-celeste he ought to have powers. At no point were we told that he didn’t, nor was it implied that he had had them, and lost them (that I recall – heavens know that I get that wrong often enough π ). Similarly, ‘Saw has never been shown reading him for this information. It might be blatantly obvious to someone with soul-sight, but if it was, I wish we’d been shown that.
Yay color! And now it’s clear that they didn’t find what they were looking for. π
@thebobmaster: I thought they had to open and close the hatch to get the pods to cycle, but if Rei can help like that, it’s bound to save Daisy’s arms from all that trouble. Oh, and Jason too. π
Speaking of whom, he probably hasn’t fared too well after three days in a pod. Or maybe he canhandle it?
@Brunhidden: “Don’t make me hungry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m hungry.”
@The_Rippy_One: If there was any mind reading, it might have just happened in the time since Jason was captured. Or maybe it’s common knowledge that the Org deprograms magical know-how out of its recruits. There are a bunch of (potentially unstable) Celeste on this ship, and they don’t seem to cause too much trouble…
Jigsaw may not be sending him to give Rei a report. If Rei is the Whimser, the poke in the nose could distract her from something she’s actively doing with Whimsy.
@the_rippy_one while were not hit over the head with it this could be an example of her reading his mind to find out something https://www.lastres0rt.com/2012/11/scared-not-stupid/ after all if he was thinking only a few moment’s more and i’m done the reader wouldn’t know what to make of it but jigsaw would realize something was up. we can only guess what she heard to make her realize something wasn’t on the up and up there. she even called it “the rehab floor” something i didn’t pick up one until a later comic. as for him not using his powers remember his run in with Sedja https://www.lastres0rt.com/2010/10/its-universal/ if he’d had his Celeste hybrid powers he’d have tried some soul or tone attack on her i’m sure.
@sulucamas good point but i think the only two who could pull it off would be Gabriel and Rei from their it would be a question as to who would have reason to and why? remember what the whistle did to Jason? if he could do something like that to a Djinned human why not to a younger Celeste?
@Sulucamas: I don’t know if she would take quite an active role in a revolt on the ship.
But being a pureblooded Celeste might offer at least some protection for them and the children against the Whimzer if things go bad. At the very least, Rei can try to keep the other children safe with her as Jigsaw and the gang go further into the belly of the beast.
If you think about it though, isn’t strange that that neither noticed a whimzer among them? One would think Gabreeil being a multi-winged Celeste like Veled and Rei being a full pureceleste would have resistances to such a power and notice a whimzer among them.
Though both seem to be doing alright. It would be interesting if Rei and Gabreil might be helping one another. What if Gabreil is the Whimzer and realized he has problems keeping in touch with reality should be and Rei is using her more powerful toning to help Gabriel in touch with how reality should be?
@e_voyager: Maybe they’re constantly playing that whistle at a tolerable level over the ships speaker system? π
@Josh.C: I thought they were just trying to free Jason and make a run for it. Do you think they’re planning a mutiny on top of that?
It actually doesn’t seem too odd to me that nobody seems to have noticed the Whimser. Granted, it could be Gabriel or Rei, but if you spend all of your time on a ship that’s entirely under the effect of the Whimsy, you’d probably never notice that anything had changed. I bet it’s one of those things that a Celeste could detect, but that’s so rare that you’d never think to look. I also doubt that anyone is immune or resistant to its effects.
And I like your theory about the dynamic between Gabriel and Rei. If that Whismy is keeping everyone alive in spite of the barnacles, it’s all the more noble. At this point, though, I’m not absolutely convinced anymore that Gabriel’s the one they’re looking for. π
@Sul: I’m with you on this one. There isn’t any rational method of defending against reality being re-written. It’s a bit of the “how do you know that the world you experience is in any way related to the real world?” Except there aren’t any convenient cobblestones to kick, and no vaguely ominous, and yet sexy, black men offering you variously colored pills.
I guess the best you could manage is convincing the Whismer that you can fight it, and work from there…
We know that Celeste can read a person’s mind thru a handshake from what we’ve seen Veled do and Jigsaw’s reluctance to shake with Rei on first meeting. But i sort of got the impression that a Celeste only needs physical contact with the person (i.e. it doesn’t have to specifically be a handshake) however a handshake is normally seen as a friendly gesture and so that makes it a convenient way for a Celeste to touch someone without it being obvious that they’re up to something. If that’s the case, then by getting the kid to beep Rei’s nose, Rei will have access to all the kid’s darker secrets…perhaps a more in-depth knowledge than Jigsaw currently can see with her own powers (Remember that Jigsaw had to jog Jason’s memory https://www.lastres0rt.com/2010/07/fireworks-are-best-set-off-by-someone-else/ before she could read what he knew about the mission involving Gabriel)? So it seems to me that Rei is going to pick out the more sensitive info in this kid’s head and then she can relay it to Jigsaw somehow.
Not sure how the kid getting his Celeste powers “back” factors into that though… It could just be an excuse to make him go touch Rei. Jigsaw can probably figure out which are the right buttons to push PRETTY easily.
@shard remember jigsaw is not a Celeste she’s a vampire so her powers would be a little different. besides the kid with powers could serve as a distraction while the real guns do the damage. with powers he has a better chance to survive what’s coming
wait…I…what…?
Okay i think some one may get mauled in the near future! i hope he at least has enough sense to ask first
Now that my brain’s finished processing this, I’m pretty sure she just trolled him.
I approve.
I actually think it looks really good in black and white. Takes a good deal of talent to pull it off well, and you do, Jigsaw.
Hey color or not..Nice job!
I hope the artist is alright…
Do Celeste have increased survivability?
When did he have powers to lose, and how did ‘Saw know that?
@Feral: In some senses, yes. In the sense that Razil needs it (ie – protection from stupid)? No.
@the_rippy_one as a Celeste he was born with powers the fact that he was never shown trying to use them and perhaps a little mind reading told jigsaw that his powers were sealed off from his use. its got a nice caligraphy feel
but i feel like i should be getting a reffrence…
Hope things are just a minor inconvenience and not a total chaos Jigs.

Still very well done, even without color. Hope everything is ok, Jig! Don’t worry, we’ll be here. =)
Dat smirk! xD

@Josh.C: Your probably right about Razil’s errand. Any thoughts on how Rei might then be involved with this jailbreak?
@Sulucamas: Maybe they’ll have her read Jason’s mind until she gets the clearest signal, which will be the sign for the group to open up the cell.
Heh, as far as I know it is called booping, when one pokes another person’s nose. I wonder if maybe in some places it’s called beeping and in some places it’s called booping?
now that theres color it looks like jigsaw has a bit of a belly…
also, when beeping her nose make sure you wake her up at 2 am, dress like a turkey sandwich, and insult her hair

I just found your webcomic and must say, that the characters are really cute. Thanks for doing this π
here’s my 2 cents.
